Book Review ~ "An April Bride" by Lenora Worth

An April Bride (A Year of Weddings, #5)An April Bride by Lenora Worth
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Source: Netgalley
Genre: Christian Romance

Book Description: War changes everything . . . even their love.
Bride-to-be Stella Carson can’t wait to marry her longtime sweetheart Marshall Henderson. But Marshall has been away serving his country and after suffering a head wound and being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress syndrome, he has distanced himself from Stella by asking her not to visit him in a Washington, D.C. hospital.
Marshall returns to Louisiana just four weeks before the wedding, but as the big day draws near, Stella wonders if the man she’s loved for most of her life still wants to marry her.

My thoughts: Stella has her wedding planned. She is waiting for the groom to return from a tour of duty. They have loved each other for years, until his vehicle is hit by a bomb and he doesn't remember her.

This installment of A Year of Weddings doesn't have a couple meeting and falling in love. Instead the couple have loved each other before, and the groom needs to find a way to reconnect with his fiancee and fall in love again, or regain his memories.

I liked this twist on the traditional romance. Stella and Marshall are two great characters. They are honorable and lovable. I couldn't help but hope that they could work everything out and they would have a happy ending. The fact that Marshall is a wounded soldier made me want to see him succeed a little more. I admit to having a soft spot for men who put their life in danger to protect others and their country.

I also liked how Stella and Marshall put their trust and faith in their beliefs. The book has a strong religious element. They both do quite a bit of praying and counseling with their pastor. They realize that they cannot get through the trial on their own and call to a higher power. I liked that.

This is a clean novella that was a pleasure to read.
