Blog Tour ~ " A Voice in the Night" by Ernestine Dail

A Voice in the NightA Voice in the Night by Ernestine Dail

Source: Received electronic copy for review
Genre: Tween/Middle Grade Mystery

Book Description:  Brian, Josh and Thomas arrived at Blackstone Cabin with great expectations of fishing and having fun. Now in the midst of a raging storm, and a hooded stranger frantically knocking at their door, the boys desperately wished for Josh's father, Mr. Joplin, to return from town. Will he return in time to save the boys from danger, or will the boys open the door to the frantic knocking of the stranger outside?

My thoughts: The idea behind this book is interesting. Three boys in a cabin during a thunderstorm. Their adult supervision has been delayed and they are alone in the early hours of the morning. A thunderous knock at the door,  A man yelling for entry. Who is the stranger knocking?

It has a good beginning. The next chapter jumps back to events that happened a few days prior. The transition from chapter to chapter is not well executed. It feels as if there is a whole new idea happening. This book would have done much better with some edits. To me the story seemed more like it was a report of events than a story of events.  Some of the words used seem to be advanced for the age group.

I think this book has great potential.  There is mystery and excitement.  There are close friends who stand up for each other.  Many good things are portrayed in the story.
